| Dear Friend, The way I travel today is the stuff of dreams... stress-free, romantic, fun. And all sorts of everyday people do it. There was lots of postering and pontificating and just plain old lying going on... I was sick of it and to top it all off, they never did come to an agreeable conclusion..scrapped the entire deal...six months of my time... wasted. I felt tired, beat up, and ready for some fun with people who were NOT boring. I knew I had a vacation coming up, but I didn't have time to plan it, let alone, make flight and lodging arrangements... Today, I am writing this to you after moving to my lounge chair from the pool where I was pummeled with blissfully warm jets of thermal water... yes, I am on vacation. One of many since that fateful day when the world overwhelmed me... Today, I am recuperating from my side excursion to an Ocktoberfest celebration...boy did I celebrate! This German vacation included visiting Neuschwanstein, the fairytale castle built by Mad King Ludwig of Bavaria... and riding the cog wheel train and cable car to the summit of the Zugspitz, Germany's highest mountain... Today, I am staying with new friends in das Schiefes Haus (the Crooked House), a beautiful half-timbered hotel in Ulm dating back to medieval times... we're feasting on venison and Pfifferlinge mushrooms served with noodles floating in a creamy sauce... sampling far too many varieties of local wine. How did I manage to afford and arrange such a perfect get away? Well, let me tell you... I have secrets.... But first let me intice you with more stories... In this past year alone I've made three trips to Paris. I've visited Spain, Portugal, Latvia, and the Bohemia region of the Czech Republic (and there are more wonderful spas in Bohemia, by the way). Last January—under pale blue skies—I meandered hand in hand down the east coast of Italy with an amazing Irish lass, exploring the hill towns of Le Marche and the curious trulli dwellings of Apulia. In February, I was in Canada, whooshing down the slopes of Whistler on my snowboard and stopping only after I was exhausted for a little apres' and clubbing near the pristine crystal mountains. I spent Easter on Martinique, a gorgeous French-speaking island with white sandy beaches cast adrift in a sea of daquiris in the Carribean Ocean. Yes...There IS More to Life than work... although work makes much of this possible, I have also found ways to do this for FREE! I feel very lucky. Most people trudge to work every day... to a job that pays the bills, but provides little by way of inspiration. They endure a life of commuting. Business suits. Hours on end under fluorescent lights. Mind-numbing repetition... or high-stress deadlines... ...and the only reprieve - 10 days of vacation a year... if that. Many times, that 10 days is spent cleaning gutters on their house, or visiting the parents. If they DO manage to get away, they have spent money that they don't have yet to visit a place that the brochures say is romantic... but they only find it isolating...
